Chimney Rock State Park is home to Chimney Rock, a monolith that is 535million years old. It is North Carolina’s most well-known site. The top offers a spectacular view of Hickory Nut Gorge, Lake Lure, and other areas stretching 75 miles. Adventure-seekers looking to climb the 315-foot-high rock formation Outcroppings are well-served by the Outcroppings Trail. You can also use a state-of-the-art elevator to get to the top. The stunning view is only 44 steps away. This mountaintop experience at 2,280ft above sea level will blow you away. It’s worth it.
The Exclamation point Trail gives you access to some of the most iconic geological formations in the Park and offers the best views. The trail crosses Chimney stairs, and then follows the unique cliffside habitat. This 20-minute, the moderate-to-strenuous hike is mostly uphill and climbs approximately 150 vertical feet. Combination staircases and switchbacks will take you to popular points of interest such as the Opera Box, Devil’s Head, and Exclamation Point. There are many hikes within the park, from easy to moderately strenuous.
