Tave is 38 years old and has a passion for crafts. After life threw Tave a few curveballs she turned to the Tiny House Movement for freedom and her dream home. With the help of her dad, she designed and constructed her tiny house under nine months at a cost of under $20,000.
The gray tiny house, with its unassuming design and efficient floorplan, was nominated as the 2016 Tiny House of the Year.
Tave made the most of every square inch of the tiny house, by adding storage wherever possible. For example, the tall storage cabinet above the bed and the drawers integrated into the bed frame. By sticking to a mostly monochromatic colour scheme, the house felt bigger.
The kitchen features light gray cabinets, a stainless-steel countertop and a butcher block extension that pops up. A full-size microwave, stove and oven were built into the end the countertop. A mini-fridge can be found under the island.
Tave ensured that everything had a home in her house and it shows when you see how neat and organized her kitchen looks!
When the butcher-block extension is raised, it can be used as a dining table and folding stools can be brought in for seating. She also built in a storage area below the counter, saving space.
A custom-made table was installed below a large window. The table can also be used to craft or eat when it is folded out.
The fold-away table hides her beloved machines that are then easily accessible when Tave works on a project.
A tall closet on the rear of the home is next to the restroom and stores different items in cubbies. The bathroom is next to the wardrobe and is closed using a sliding door. The sliding mechanism is a space-saving feature that adds visual appeal to the home.
The bathroom includes a corner-shower with a tiled surround, as well as a full sized toilet and a custom-made sink.
The slim sink features a storage compartment that is hidden for hair tools. The wall-mounted medicine cabinets over the sink are used to store toiletries.
Tave’s feature of choice is next to the sink: a washer and dryer that are separate. She found a way to separate the washer/dryer unit, instead of using it all the time.
Tave’s father and Tave worked hard together for nine months to build her dream tiny home. After living in the tiny house, she says it was well worth the effort. She can’t imagine her life without it.
