Can a 400 Square Foot Park Model Home Actually Feel Spacious?

This beautiful San Juan park model was built for the Wildwood Lakefront Cottages lake resort located in Lake Whatcom, Washington. The park model is 400 square feet, with a 250 square foot loft space upstairs making it a great space for part-time or smaller full-time living. The architect for this tiny house design was Mark Ouellette who created a tiny home that feels spacious with an open living room, a galley style kitchen and dining nook. The loft upstairs in this park model is split into a bedroom and open play space which would be great for those with children or grandchildren who come to visit.

Park model living would be wonderful in this park model home, with so many great details inside and out. Both the exterior and interior use wood trim for a nice finish instead of the synthetic finishes most park model homes use. Outside there is a front patio and a side patio to extend the tiny house’s interior space outdoors. Inside, the living room has high ceilings, plenty of windows and a stone fireplace that makes the tiny house space feel warm and cozy. The tiny house galley style kitchen has modern appliances and a dining area included which would make family dining easy. The master bedroom in the home is a good size, as is the upstairs loft sleeping area. Wood ceilings and wood floors in this tiny home also help to make this park model feel warmer and more like a regular conventional house. With views of the lake, this is a stunning example of what park model living can be like.

While many park model homes constitute as smaller spaces and they have some similarities to tiny houses, there are some differences as well. Park models have been regulated as a temporary living space that have been designed for RV parks or similar settings like a mobile home park. They are usually 399 or less and can be towed on the road when they need to be moved. These homes are not usually meant to be moved as frequently as tiny houses on wheels though.

Tiny houses built on foundations, on the other hand, can be built all the way up to 1,000 square feet and are usually built using regular conventional construction. Tiny houses on wheels offer a more temporary living situation for people who move around a lot or who are always on the go, they are also able to be built by the owner. But tiny houses on wheels can be much harder to finance and insure, as well as find parking for than park models. Hopefully, that will improve in time, but for those wanting fully regulated tiny homes, a park model may be the way to go.
