Most tiny houses share the same basic layout. They look and feel similar to large motorhomes (which is not surprising considering that tiny homes were originally tiny). One large living area is located downstairs, with one or two small lofts upstairs for sleeping. These are usually very low ceilings.
I’m excited to see tiny houses that break the mold. Such is the case for the “Carriage House” by Zenith Design + Build—the same company that brought us the impressive 72 hour “Classy Amelia.”
The Carriage house does not have a low, horizontal build. It actually has a vertical structure with an attached garage.
The garage is not really that small, but the main living space qualifies.
Wow … that garage holds quite a secret. The top has a large deck with high railings. This greatly increases the livable area. It would be a great spot to host parties, do DIY projects, or simply enjoy the fresh air.
This tiny house is truly amazing, and the deck alone makes it one of my favorite small houses.
Do you not want to just relax on this deck with the tree boughs overhead, and the expansive view all around? I imagine you might get some shade in the summer and spring from the leaves.
The upstairs door leads directly to the home.
Here’s the downstairs entrance, decorated with the exact same trim as the upstairs. I love the color scheme. The muted blue and warm brown contrast well, but they don’t clash. They are great companions.
The front doors are very wide! The front doors are very wide and you can see the layout of your home from afar when they are opened. The doors open onto the kitchen with the bathroom at the back. A set metal stairs leads up to a bedroom that is attached to the deck.
In many respects, it really is not all that different from your standard tiny house layout—just more vertical.
This is what you would see if you stepped into the kitchen, closed the front doors, and looked back at them.
Here’s a glimpse into the bathroom.
Here you will see the fridge/freezer, which were placed in an alcove on the wall. There is also a little more cabinet and counter space. White cabinets blend seamlessly into the wall.
The rest of the kitchen is located across from it. To the right is the oven, and the cooktop. I don’t know what the appliance to your left is. It looks almost like a second oven, which doesn’t seem very likely. The sink is left of that, along with some cabinet space and more cabinets above, plus a microwave. Again, the cabinets are white painted to blend in with the walls so that the space appears as open and spacious as possible. Let’s go upstairs!
Now, we are in the bedroom. This is one of my favorite parts of the house—right here next to this railing. This section of the floor could’ve been closed off—and that wouldn’t have been a bad thing. This allows you to see all the way to the ceiling in the bedroom from the ground level. This gives the home an expansive feel.
The bedroom has plenty of floor space and there’s a cool little walkway. The bedroom still offers privacy.
This stone structure is a fireplace. It would focus heat in the bedroom due to its central location. However, it would also be able reach the ground floor.
The bedroom is spacious and airy, just like the rest of the house. It’s not often that a bedroom has a high vaulted ceiling in such a small house. But here it is! It would be incredible to have the deck right next to your bed. It would take only two steps to go outside to take in some fresh air and gaze at the stars.
It’s not clear if this is sculpture or light fixture, but it’s certainly cool.
