Haiti was struck by a magnitude 7.7 earthquake in 2010. Sukup Manufacturing, which was founded after the earthquake caused widespread destruction, decided to do something about it.
The result is the Safe T Home®, an unusual tiny domicile that looks like a short, galvanized steel silo.
These homes are built to endure any type of weather. Each measures 18 feet wide. The 20 gauge galvanized steel corrugated has a lifespan of 70+ years and doesn’t require maintenance. The metal is resistant against pests like termites, as well as moisture damage.
Each home is large enough to accommodate 10 people. Double-roof systems help to disperse heat. In times of drought, families can use a water collection system.
