This Incredible La Maison Conteneur Container Home Was Created By Joining Two Shipping Containers

  • 4 min read

It may not be immediately obvious, but this striking home was constructed from two old shipping containers. The shipping containers are just like the ones used to transport goods on ships, trains, and trucks around the world. These shipping containers are typically used for a limited time, then they are retired. But what happens after they are no longer in use? They are usually recycled into scrap metal or put in the trash. These steel containers can now be used to make beautiful, stylish homes. Although it may sound tedious, using shipping containers to build homes is easy and efficient. They are perfectly shaped like a home and can be used to build a house. Depending on where they are purchased, shipping containers can be bought for as low as $3,000 which makes them affordable for building materials. Although the floor, walls, ceiling, and ceiling are already in place, they can still be used as-is. But, many people alter them quite a bit by removing walls or lifting ceilings and adding windows and doors. One container can easily create a small home, office, cottage, or guest house. However, more than one or two shipping containers can make a large, luxurious home.

This home in Quebec, Canada was constructed using two shipping containers. It is called La Maison Conteneur I. The resident built her own shipping containers home, which is quite impressive. Claudie Drubeuil is her name and she built this luxurious 1,920 square foot home. The home is composed of three bedrooms and two-and-a-half bathrooms. You’d be hard-pressed to believe it’s a shipping container. This was actually one the first shipping container homes that became very popular. You would assume that this home looks like a regular modern home. It has clean lines and wooden panelling with black trim and accents. A rooftop patio makes the most of the home’s space. The home’s 9-foot ceilings make it feel spacious and open. The polished concrete floors give it a modern, contemporary look. All of the large windows in the home open up to the outside, allowing for lots of natural light. The original shipping container walls were left exposed in the living area. They were then painted a bright white. To give it a more earthy feeling, they added some wood details.

This amazing fully equipped kitchen features stainless steel appliances such as an oven, range, refrigerator, center island, sink, and a freezer. The kitchen has tons of storage space, and a huge pantry to store even more food. To bring in natural tones and materials, they added a large wooden dining room table. The pot hanger on the wall is perfect and makes great storage for kitchen items. The half-bathroom has a sink and flush toilet. It also features reclaimed wooden walls with metal shelves. The master bedroom is upstairs. It has an open floorplan and the bathtub is right in the room. There’s also a toilet just around the corner. This unique, modern and industrial design is great for anyone who plans to build a container home.
