Ever dreamed of building your own cabin out back, but weren’t sure if you could afford it. You might be able to build your own little cabin out back. Alla Ponomareva, an intrepid builder, decided to make her dream a reality and built a simple A-frame cabin that measured just 80 square feet. The project cost was $700. $700 in materials (many of them upcycled) & three weeks’ work.
The end result is simply stunning, and is a perfect compliment to the Montana woodland setting.
This structure may feel cramped, if it weren’t for the fact that the entire wall lets in light and provides beautiful views of nature. You will also notice the solar panel at the top right. This was included in the $700 price.
The porch provides additional outdoor space for relaxation and enjoying the fresh air and the rustle leaves. The original plan was to throw the deck away. It belonged originally to Alla’s sister in law, who had thrown it into an unusable pile.
Here’s something you might be surprised by. The transparent wall opens up!
This allows for seamless transitions between indoor and outdoor spaces. It’s a great way for Montana summers to be enjoyed.
After much debate about the colors to use for the interior, Alla settled on coral and mint for a striking and unique effect.
This is a great spot to read a book or simply gaze out at the beautiful scenery.
You have the option to invite a friend along to share your space. If needed, another person could possibly sleep on the floor.
This could be used as a private retreat or guest house.
You can easily push the beds together.
There are a few hammocks that allow you to relax in the shade of the trees and gaze up at the stars at night. There are also portable toilets and a solar shower nearby.
Wow, Alla! Amazing job, Alla! It took only $700 and three work weeks to accomplish this. It just goes to prove what is possible when you have imagination, upcycled items, and a can-do attitude.
